The Kit Carson State Bank opened
for business in November of 1909 in Wild Horse, Colorado as the
Alfalfa State Bank. It was moved to Kit Carson, Colorado in 1912
and the name changed at that time. We are conveniently located at
113 Main Street.
Our hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. Monday through Friday. Our indoor ATM is accessible 24 hours
a day.
Kit Carson is located on the eastern plains of
Colorado 150 miles south east of Denver at the joining point of
US Highway 287 and US Highway 40. State Highway 59 begins at Kit
Carson and heads north, providing access to Interstate 70. State
Highway 94 is twenty miles east of Kit Carson and provides access
to Colorado Springs, which is located 113 west of Kit Carson at
the foot of Pikes Peak.
Kit Carson is home to 350 industrious, friendly
people. Motels, restaurants, and auto service facilities are available
to the many travelers using highways 287 and 40. Farming, ranching,
and oil production also support the economic base of the community.
Kit Carson is home to the Kit Carson Outreach Clinic,
a local medical facility provided in cooperation with Keefe Memorial
Hospital. The Kit Carson School District R-l provides quality education
to K-12 students. Our city building was recently renovated to provide
a wonderful location for town gatherings, meetings, or family get-togethers.
Historical sites include the Kit Carson Museum (open from Memorial
Day to Labor Day) and the Kit Carson Pool Hall. The "Pool Hall"
is listed on the National Historic Buildings Register. With its
wooden stage, bar, and beautiful hardwood floor, it brings back
memories of the not so distant past.
Labor Day weekend each year the town is the host
to "Kit Carson Day". A pancake breakfast, amateur rodeo,
exhibits, noon barbecue, parade, games and a melodrama provide plenty
of entertainment for the weekend.
We are very proud of our volunteers in the community.
The volunteer fire department maintains modern fire fighting equipment
and the volunteer EMT's provide emergency medical treatment to local
citizens, visitors and travelers passing through the area.
Named after the famous "Scout", we think
Kit Carson is where the "West" really begins. We invite
you to stop by for a visit.
