The
Kit Carson State Bank, Cheyenne Wells Branch, was opened in August
of 1996. It is a full service bank complete with a 24 hour enclosed
ATM. Our hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
We are located in the seat of Cheyenne County approximately 25 miles
east of the main bank in Kit Carson.
Cheyenne Wells has a population of 1,300 people. Our main industries
are farming, cattle ranching, and oil production. Cheyenne Wells
is home to the Keefe Memorial Hospital and the Cheyenne Manor
nursing home. The Cheyenne County R-5 school district is located
in Cheyenne Wells, providing quality education to grade school,
middle school, and high school students. We are very proud of
our 18-hole golf course, Olympic size public swimming pool, and
our two parks, (one of which includes a walking path and exercise
stations). Our new city building, home to the public library,
also includes a council room and a meeting hall that is available
to rent for meetings and family gatherings. The historical society
is also very active in keeping our "Old Jail" open as
the museum. Our county facilities include the courthouse which
houses all of the public records for the county. As with Kit Carson,
Cheyenne Wells has a separate fire protection district made up
of an all volunteer fire department. In association with the fire
department, is a number of volunteer EMT's who also donate countless
hours to insure the safety of the East Cheyenne Protection District
and the surrounding Cheyenne Wells area.
Cheyenne Wells is home to the Cheyenne County Fair & Rodeo
in early August. This brings together both professional and local
participants for rodeo action, as well as a barbecue, and local
4-H animal shows and sales. The Tumbleweed Festival is another
exciting time for the citizens of Cheyenne Wells. Each July the
citizens of Cheyenne Wells and the Chamber of Commerce band together
to put on the weekend event which includes local games for the
kids as well as a free breakfast, lunch, & dinner, dance,
and a two-day softball marathon that tests the endurance of all
involved.
